We are a new website, so we have a few limits as we figure things out. I will revisit limits to see if they still make sense as we grow and evolve.
One list per book
We only allow one list per featured book. This means you can only pair your list with one of your books and not create multiple lists to pair with the same book.
For example, if you wrote a book on FDR and do a list called "The best books to understand FDR's presidency," that would be the only list you can do where you feature your book on FDR. You can't create another list to feature that book.
You can, of course, do another list to pair with another book. And, if you have a book series, we do make exceptions there, but email us at forauthors@shepherd.com to talk about that with Ben (as we are also figuring that out).
What about sequels?
Currently, we do not allow the featured book to be book number 2 or higher in a series. Why? It will get zero clicks from readers; we found in testing that they will never click on it unless it is book #1. It can work if it is a stand-alone book, but you will not get purchases if they land on your Amazon page and see it is in a series. I can't stress this enough as part of what we help authors do is help them do effective marketing.
I am playing with ideas on how to help promote book series, but for now, we only want to work with book 1 in a series. I am playing with ideas for how we can help authors with long book series more. Please email me at forauthors@shepherd.com with any ideas. I am working to integrate book series data in 2023 and testing some ideas around that.
