Can I recommend books I edited or from authors I mentored?

We run on an honor code, and we trust our authors to pick books that they personally love and recommend. You do right for readers as long as you stay true to that value.

Notes:

• We do allow authors to pick their own translations in rare cases. 
• If you recommend friends' books or books from your writing group, just ensure you do it for the right reasons. You are making the right choice as long as you are true to your convictions. 
• If you edited the book, we recommend featuring it rather than recommending it. Readers do not like the optics of authors picking their own books. This is also why we have the featured spot to make it totally transparent and honest with readers. 
• You can't recommend your own books, of course, and that is why we have a featured spot at the top of the list for you and one of your books. Our early testing found that readers flee the page if the author recommends their own book. It is not something readers find trustworthy.
