For a book recommendation submission, I would like you to give me exclusive perpetual rights to publish the text of the five book recommendations. And non-exclusive rights to publish everything else you give me. In return, I forever promote you and one of your books alongside the book recommendation list.
What does this mean?
- The text of the 5 book recommendations you write are given exclusively to Shepherd, and no one else is allowed to use them. We are totally fine if you recommend these 5 same books on another website; we just want the text of the book recommendation to only show up on our website
- For things like your photo, book's description, your book's cover image, and URLs, you give me the right to publish those (but non-exclusively, of course).
Why do I ask for exclusive rights to the text of the 5 book recommendations?
- Google has a duplicate content penalty, so I want to ensure we are the only place on the internet where these 5 book recommendations are published. Otherwise, it could hurt the website and all authors who take part.
- I also have long-term plans to freely license these recommendations to Indie Bookstores and Libraries to use in their physical space worldwide to help them sell books (and get you more publicity and sales channels). And I need exclusive rights to be able to do this.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I try to make this super simple.
